A ‘momentous’ thing happened at my school the other day. After being in post for almost 18 months Youtube.com was unblocked: the greatest free teaching resource in the world! Like most teachers, we stumble upon useful teaching resources and forget where they originated from. In order to beat this I’ve set up the ‘#HistoryTeacher online video database’ (the hashtag for History teachers of Twitter)
Building on the fantastic success of Tom Barrett’s ‘Interesting ways’ its clear that the potential for crowd sourcing is vast. My appeal to History teachers is simple: please add any useful videos for teaching History in the database as found here and embedded below. Google docs allows people from across the world to collaborate seamlessly in documents. Simply click on a relevant topic, add a link, a brief description and your name.
I’ve already found some useful videos sourced from the BBC, the History channel and of course Youtube and begun to compile links under the topics of ‘WW1 Causes‘, ‘Treaty of Versailles’ , ‘Life in Nazi Germany’, ‘Rise of Hitler‘ and ‘Weimar Germany‘. (Click to check them out)
